Last night, while the world clinked glasses and watched balls drop, I found myself in a different kind of celebration – a digital Watch Night, if you will. As my laptop's glow painted shadows on my face at midnight, I was feeling the weight and wonder of history... Black History. The same history that had our ancestors gathered in dark churches on Freedom's Eve, their prayers rising like incense, waiting for freedom's first light.
My people, the symmetry shakes me to my core.
In my quiet corner of 2024, watching my AI model train into the late hours, I felt their presence. Like Nikki Giovanni's verses that danced between tradition and revolution, we're moving in rhythm taking us from freedom dreams to digital destiny. I heard Sweet Honey in the Rock's harmonies in the hum of my computer, a gospel, a good news, reminding me that our story has always been about turning wishes into wonders.
You see, I believe there's something prophetic about this moment we're in:
In 1862, they waited in shadows for freedom's dawn.
In 2025, we don't have to wait, we can create.
Our ancestors had hymns. We have algorithms.
They spoke in spiritual code. We speak in Python and Java.
But here's what lights my soul on fire: Every time my fingers hit these keys, I'm continuing a legacy. When that code compiles successfully, it become a spiritual inheritance. Our ancestors prayed for freedom papers; we're writing freedom programs.
Looking ahead into 2025 (because vision is my love language, and the future is my favorite conversation), I see us doing more than disrupting tech. We're fulfilling prophecies they whispered in darkened church.
Every startup we launch reflects the entrepreneurial spirit that built Black Wall Street.
Every Black woman who pushes code to production is downloading dreams and uploading possibilities.
To my sisters in tech:
Your keyboard is your drum and altar
Your innovations are your offerings
Your persistence is your praise
And your code is your freedom song
The divine download is clear: We are "women in tech", the priestesses of promise encoding liberation. Our ancestors walked by faith through darkness; we're coding by faith under fluorescent lights. From freedom papers to building clouds, we're in a new position.
This year, let's stand at the command line in history's terminal. And know, this new script we're running is about to change everything.
So, as we code under these lights, remember – every keystroke is a candle in this digital Watch Night. The dawn is already here. Let’s keep that energy burning through the entire year and beyond.
Forward in Faith and Function,

2030
I see it clearly, don’t you? Vision as a love language, helps me see the blueprint. We’ll be celebrating the code than redefined how AI understands cultural context. Our natural language processing models finally comprehend African American Vernacular English without bias. The algorithms we'vebuilt today evolved into systems that recognize the nuances of our community's needs, from healthcare applications that actually understand our symptoms to financial models that properly value our businesses.
The neural networks we're training right now will be sophisticated enough to preserve our oral histories, turning our elders' stories into interactive experiences that teach future generations. Our daughters won't have to explain their hair texture to beauty apps or why their skin tone isn't being properly recognized in medical imaging.
2050.
By then, the quantum computing breakthroughs lays the groundwork that revolutionizes how we approach generational wealth building in our communities. The blockchain systems we build now will evolve into community-owned platforms that let us circulate our dollars, fund our own dreams, and create tech cooperatives that mirror Black Wall Street.
Some may say I'm only dreaming but really I'm looking at the technological trajectories we've already set in motion. The machine learning models we're debugging today will evolve into AI systems that help predict and prevent health disparities in our communities. The data centers we're building will be powered by clean energy, with Black women leading the charge in sustainable tech infrastructure.
Don't just push code to production; push boundaries of what's possible. Every bug we fix today is clearing the path for systems that will serve our people tomorrow. Every API we design is building bridges to opportunities our grandparents couldn't imagine but somehow knew we'd create.
Keep making!
