ABOUT US

Sisterhood Sit-In is committed to dismantling systems of oppression and creating nurturing environments where sisters can thrive in love, health, and prosperity. Drawing inspiration from the resilience and wisdom of our foremothers, we adopt a holistic approach to empowerment, ensuring every aspect of well-being is addressed—from mental health and wellness to financial independence. Looking steadfastly towards the future, we are dedicated to protecting and serving our community. Utilizing every resource at our disposal, we challenge existing paradigms to reshape a more inclusive and empowering future for all.

In the heart of 2020, amidst global upheaval and the height of the pandemic, The Cook Sisters sparked the extraordinary Sisterhood Sit-In as a call to "Serve and Protect" one another. This was their answer to the shadows of racism and misogyny, transforming protest into a celebration of strength and unity. Gathering over a thousand supporters under the rain, they didn't just seek community protection; they created a revolution, uniting voices in a poetic stand for sisterhood and justice, resonating beyond the moment.

The Sisterhood Sit-In Trolley Tours, known affectionately as the Rebel Rides, has resounded tribute to Black womanhood, empowering and uplifting our sisters' achievements across Philadelphia. Over four vibrant seasons, this nationwide movement has celebrated Black female entrepreneurship by stopping at Black women-owned gems throughout Philadelphia, drawing in over 2000 supporters from 27 states. The tours generated undeniable buzz, garnered acclaim from local and national media, and significantly boosted business for all partners involved. Our final season, themed "Sitting Pretty," spanned generations from boomers to Gen Alpha, connecting stories that honored the wisdom of elders, the resilience of middle generations, and the vibrancy of youth. Collaborating with Philadelphia’s Visitors Center, each tour, led by the dynamic STARFIRE offered a soulful journey through iconic locales like Reading Terminal and The Northern Liberties, aboard the eco-friendly Philly Phlash Bus. Though this chapter closes, the legacy of the Sisterhood Sit-In Trolley Tours will continue to inspire as a powerful narrative of community, celebration, and empowerment.

At Sisterhood Sit-In, we are designing a future where sisterhood redefines leadership and reshapes the world. Guided by the powerful legacies of The Sisterhood (1977) we envision a vibrant community where Black women and sisters from all backgrounds lead the way in building a just and equitable society.

In the next three to five years, we aim to cultivate a diverse group of steadfast, outspoken leaders who champion collaboration over competition. We're committed to breaking down barriers and setting new standards, not just navigating the world but daring it to transform with us. Our leaders will develop strategic initiatives that echo our collective wisdom and innovative spirit, ensuring that every voice is heard in mapping our forward path and in passing the torch to future generations.

This period will see us deepen our commitment to holistic empowerment, expand our influence, and amplify our impact through community-driven projects, educational programs, and advocacy that disrupts the status quo. We are dedicated to nurturing a sister-led organization that empowers, highlights, and celebrates the strength, creativity, and potential of each member.

Step into a future with us where sisterhood is the foundation and the flame that lights our way. Together, we will write a new chapter in history, pioneering a model of leadership that is inclusive, transformative, and boldly unapologetic.
